Last week in class, we started on coding (C#) using Unity and Visual Studio. We would write in the code in Visual Studio, then apply it to Unity, where it would run the code and affect the program. Our first task was to make the program say "Hello World".
So far, coding has not gotten too complicated, but you still have to follow all the steps carefully. One small mistake, such as a space where it shouldn't be or a misspelling, could make the code do the wrong thing or not work at all. If you misspell something, the program might not recognize a keyword, which tells the code what to do with the information after it. If you leave out a bracket or parenthesis, or mix them up, everything in the code after that could break. But in the end, when you code finally works, you feel a sense of accomplishment. Everything in the computer world runs on code, your web browser, your digital art studio, your video games, robots, even cars and planes. Code runs the program behind the scenes. Without it, the program would not function at all, nor would technology even be advanced as it is today. -Coding is stressful and complicated -It tells a program what to do -In the end, you will feel accomplished once you finish your code. -Code is very important and can be a useful skill

About a month ago, I procured the game American Truck Simulator by SCS Software. In the game, your goal is to create and expand a trucking company by buying trucks, delivering cargo, hiring drivers, and buying garages. You traverse across the southwestern United States, along long stretches of road, making sure your fuel is ok and that you don't fall asleep, while encountering random events, like roadwork of a plane on the highway. Pros: -Realistic truck driving, with multiple aspects you need to keep your eye on -Random roadside events -Easy to rank up -Large map Cons: -AI traffic can get in your way a lot -Missions can take a long time (30+ mins) -Needs more variety of trucks The good things about the game are that the driving is realistic for people who want a challenging game, there are fun random roadside events, it is easy to make money and level up, and the map is pretty large. The cons are that the AI traffic can block your truck, either from pulling out in an intersection or from exiting off the highway, so I have to slam on my brakes not to miss the exit. And there are only 12 trucks and 2 truck companies. I wish that they would add some more companies. Overall, I really enjoy the game and still play it. I have played it way more then I probably should, and have still only explored about 35% of the map. This week in class, I have been working animating in 3DS Max. I currently am learning new tools for animation, which involve transformation of objects, particle effects, and lighting.
In addition, the other week I finished animating my 3DS Max character. After tediously attaching the bones to the character, I then edited the bones to properly fit the character, which was also tedious. I had to make sure that the envelopes only moved the part of the character which it was supposed to. Which means if I moved the leg, only that leg would move and it should move naturally. Back to this week, I first worked on creating a wrecking ball that smashed a wall. I put properties on the objects that made them act like they were made out of different materials. I made the ball out of steel and the wall out of cardboard. Next, I added a wave animation to a plane to make it look like water, and then adding a snow particle effect above it to make it look like it was snowing. -Animation is hard. -3DS Max has many different tools. -Animation requires patience and understanding.
